Reference agronomic indices from open data, no sensors to buy
Agriculture Atlas is building virtual sensors for every H3 grid cell from open satellite and weather data: reference indices on soil water, heat, salinity and crop stress to inform your own field decisions.
Reference indices only. Not weather forecasts or official warnings.
Virtual sensors instead of field hardware
Field sensors are costly to buy and maintain. Agriculture Atlas is designed to derive reference agronomic indices from open Earth-observation data instead.
Map every field to an H3 grid cell
Farmland is placed on the open H3 hexagonal grid (resolutions 7 and 8), combining agricultural land-use and surface-water layers.
Fuse open satellite and weather data
Planned inputs for each cell: Sentinel-1/2, NASA SMAP, MODIS land surface temperature and Google WeatherNext/GraphCast model data.
From agronomic formulas to readable indices
Established methods such as FAO-56 Penman-Monteith yield 7 reference indices on a simple three-colour scale. They support, not replace, local experience and extension guidance, and are not forecasts or warnings.
7 reference agronomic indices
Each H3 grid cell is designed to carry the same set of indices, read through virtual sensors. Pick an index to switch the layer (illustrative colours).

4 pilot agro-ecological regions
Phase 1 covers Vietnam, including the Hoàng Sa and Trường Sa archipelagos, with focus on four key farming regions.
-
Red River Delta & Northern Mountains
Rice, winter vegetables and tea; frost index and growing degree days.
-
Central Coast
Short-season rice, dragon fruit and coastal aquaculture; heat-stress and ET0 reference indices.
-
Central Highlands
Coffee, durian, pepper and tea; ET0 as a dry-season reference.
-
Mekong Delta
Rice, fruit orchards and aquaculture; key indices: salinity and leaf wetness.
Built on open data
Planned sources. Each is used under its own licence and attribution terms; some, such as GraphCast model weights, are non-commercial. Naming a source does not imply its endorsement.
